Neighboring Parish Group

Did you know that in 1980 there were 802 active priests in Buffalo, in 2000 there were 490 and in 2012 that number has dropped to 286?

For the past 7-8 months, pastors and Parish Council leaders from a number of neighboring parishes have been meeting to discuss and plan ways that we can work collectively to spread our faith and best utilize our resources given current statistics and demographics. The parishes involved in this collaboration include St. Christopher, St. Jude, St. Francis of Assisi, the Newman Center at UB and St. Pius X.

You may recall that we were part of a joint Penance Service last Christmas, and again during Lent. This year, St. Jude will host an evening Penance Service on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 and St. Christopher will host an afternoon Penance Service on Monday, December 17th at 3:30 PM. St. Jude, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Pius X along with St. Christopher have all agreed to participate. The parishes will rotate hosting the Penance Service each year.

You will begin to see more collaborative events and services in the upcoming year such as Stations of the Cross during Lent, Holy Day Masses at staggered times, as well as workshops and events open to everyone. Watch the bulletin and check our website often for weekly updates.
